Several years ago when I read kos' post about the ACA bill I was outraged. He referred to the then bill as a "monstrosity" and that the Democrats should "kill" the bill. I remember thinking that his criticism was not constructive and his rhetoric unnecessarily heated.
Honestly, I thought kos might have been hacked at the time because he took issue with the individual mandate. Now any real Democrat that followed Obama's career would have known that Tom Daschle is Obama's mentor and that Daschle's health care reform plan was going to become law. Anybody that followed the 2008 Democratic nominating contest would have known Obama was going to say anything to win and he consistently took the low road against Hillary, so I always knew the individual mandate was going to be included in the final bill and Obama's opposition to the individual mandate was based on polls showing young people opposed it. Also, Obama won by a large margin in 2008, Kucinich didn't win, so his team should get to craft the reform!?! I always thought the worst part of kos' post was that it laid the foundation for the Tea Party's opposition to health care reform and helped Republicans take back the House in 2010...his use of heated language like "kill" was a template for Sarah Palin's "Death Panel" language.
So why do I now view the ACA as a "monstrosity" that we must "kill"--I just received a letter stating that my health insurance plan is being cancelled and that I will have to pay hundreds more a month in premiums for WORSE health insurance!!! That is right, the ACA plan would only be better if I was a woman that needed maternity coverage...I am not a woman and I will not be having a baby, but my middle class family will have to spend more money on health insurance!?!
I am still a liberal and I will continue to post here, but I am now a Tea Party supporter that wants the ACA killed. If you look at my past posts here you will see that I was one of the biggest supporters of the ACA exchanges on this site, so if I am lost then all is lost. Let's finish what kos started--all good liberals and progressives should follow the lead of kos and advocate for the repeal of this monstrosity!
