We all know we have our "Rights", right? That we have a God-Given Righttm to buy whatever low quality, dirt-cheap, semi-safe, sweatshop slavery made product that we have our hearts set on - and there's nothing - BUT NOTHING - that the big bad Obama Nanny State could, or should, do about it.
Our Right to Buy weak useless cheap defective SHIT is ABSOLUTE. Inviolate. It. Can. Not. Be. Abridged.
It's like the Tea Party 2nd-and-half-ish Amendment. Or something.
So sayeth Marsha Blackburn (R-Bullshitistan) http://www.rawstory.com/...
“Some people like to drive a Ford, not a Ferrari,” Blackburn had quipped at the hearing. “And some people like to drink out of a red Solo cup, not a crystal stem. You’re taking away their choice.”
“I will always go to the mat and fight for freedom, free people, free markets,” Blackburn insisted. “And I think for the federal government to come in and take away the choice that people have had in the health care market and say, ‘Hey, we don’t like what you’ve been buying, we’re going to make you buy this.’”
“What’s the next thing going to be? You can’t buy that Solo cup? You can’t buy an inexpensive blouse? You can’t buy a pair of shoes that cost less than another pair?”
She added: “So do they think that the federal government is going to become the determiner of the cost and set prices of everything that you can buy at a quality that they say is worthy? Come on! This is absolutely ridiculous. I am not going to sit here and let them get by with this.
Here's the sad thing about Ms. Blackburn. It may come as a shock to her I know, but the simple honest truth is the Government has been "getting away" with requiring products sold to consumers in this nation have at least a
Minimum Level of Quality for quite a long time. About 100 Years.
And there's good reason why.
{This was originally written yesterday, but I already had a rec'd diary up that day - and this other rec'd diary was inspiried by Blackburn albiet from her making the same comments during a House Hearing w/ Sec. Sebellius instead of on Fox News. Apparently she said the same thing about 3 or 4 times, so it was clear she was trying to create a "Meme" with her "Fords, Ferraris and Red Solo Cup" crack - it was a Dog Whistle to the Toby Keith Shit-Kicker Club - it just didn't work.)
I don't usually like to put words and thoughts in other people's heads, but since Ms. Blackburn has so much unused rental space in her frontal lobe - I doubt she'll feel that crowded.
If someone wanted to by a set of really cheap shoes - how exactly does Ms. Blackburn think those shoes happen to be made available at such a cheap rate? Who would have made those shoes? Under what conditions? At what wage?
Might those really cheap shoes have been made at an (ex) factory like this one? http://www.bbc.co.uk/...
Two months after the collapse of a factory in Bangladesh, new building inspections have revealed that six out of every 10 factories there are unsafe.
More than 1,000 people were killed when pillars supporting the Rana Plaza factory building gave way.
Most of the clothing produced in Bangladesh is sold in Europe and the US but, as Yalda Hakim reports from Dhaka, factories that have been declared unsafe are still full of workers.
Marsha Blackburn says she'll "Go to the Mat for Freedom", but not apparently for THOSE PEOPLE'S Freedom.
For those who say what happens in China or Indonesia or Bangladesh couldn't possibly happen here in the Great State of America - it already has. 102 Year ago (which is exactly where the GOP wants to "Return" us too, the great age of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire)
So the reality is there's a cost to those knockoff Jimmy Choos that Marsha Blackburn would like to benefit from, but never actually pay herself. There's a reason we actually have Quality Standards for workers and products in America. Because without them, there is a cost - In Blood.
She's seems to think cheap products just sort of "happen". Like magic. And the government shouldn't do anything like require that those products aren't going to Collapse or Explode because who cares who might be hurt by that?
The government shouldn't be checking to make sure we don't have Salmonella in our food, because when has that ever happened lately? It's not like a bunch of Private companies would ever let their processing conditions get so bad that such a thing would occur would they?

And then it's not like we've ever import other types of CHEAP products from all over the world such as
Children's Toys laced with Lead Paint or
Toothpaste with Antifreeze. I mean, if people want those products at those prices - they should have them and give up the right to complain about minor issue like

Or so it was written in Thessalonians wasn't it?
Yeah, anywho, the case would be different if the Low-Cost High-Deductible Health Care Plans that have been cancelled by insurance companies own choice (not Obamacare) lately were actually useable insurance or anything. I mean, buying these plans is like purchasing a car that doesn't have brakes, or wheels, or an engine. Sure, it's only $50 a month but when you actually try to Drive IT it's gonna cost you $100,000 and you're going to Lose Your House.
"She's paying $650 a year to be uninsured," Karen Pollitz, an insurance expert at the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation, said. "I have to assume that she never really had to make much of a claim under this policy. She would have lost the house she's sitting in if something serious had happened. I don't know if she knows that." [...]
Okay, but can't we be outraged that Ms. Barrette will have to fork over $591 a month for a replacement plan? Actually, no, because she has other and better options than the costly plan Blue Cross Blue Shield wants to put her in. She [can] get real insurance that covers all essential health benefits for well under $200 a month. [...]
To put these two plans in perspective, let's imagine that Ms. Barrette's luck runs out and she receives a diagnosis of breast cancer that will cost $120,000 to treat.
Under her current junk plan, she would probably receive no more than a few hundred dollars of benefits for doctor visits and drugs. It wouldn't cover her surgery, her chemotherapy, her many expensive medications, or the repeated diagnostic tests she'd likely require. She would end up with probably $119,000 of unpaid medical bills. With the Humana plan, those bills top out at $6,300 a year, no matter what.
So, Marsha Blackburn thinks buying this kind of junk insurance that happens to have a
financial hand grenade with it's pin half-way pulled out attached to it is a "Right"? Seriously? Does she also think buying a '74 Ford Pinto the with
Special Napalm Trunk Extension as some kind of "Right" too?
That's Free-dum?
Sure, fine. Of course it is, in Teabagistan. Why not? What was I thinking? Caveat Sucktor. Suckers get what they deserve in Somalia, Rhodesia and other third world Teabagistan Nation States like, y'know, Texas. How could I ever think otherwise? 'Murica Fuck Yeah.

9:28 AM PT: Guess what's even worse? Blackburn can't come up with this dumb hick bullshit on her own, she was plagarizing Toby Keith.
Now a red solo cup is the best receptacle
For barbecues, tailgates, fairs and festivals
And you, sir, do not have a pair of testicles
If you prefer drinking from glass
A red solo cup is cheap and disposable
And in 14 years they are decomposable
And unlike my home, they are not foreclosable
Freddie-Mac can kiss my ass. Woo!
