JOBS could be created repairing roads, bridges, updating America's SYSTEM instead of the obscene amount being spent on reckless defense contracts. There are some good things in defense, but a lot, a LOT of money is just being thrown away or, outright stolen..  Someone is making money... like ticks, they are, government private contractors and rich lawmakers. It's time to staunch the bleeding and re-invest here.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Some people are focused on manipulating other people; other people are content to manipulate their material environment and transform it to their liking. The former appeals to the lazy and instinct-driven verbal individuals, whose only talent is their gift of gab. The latter is the metier of the artist and creator, people who often have no inclination to even interact with their own kind. Which may account for why there's a derth of talented people in the public arena and a plethora of incompetent talkers.
How do we strike a ballance? Perhaps if we persuade the doers to take a turn at the helm and promise they can get back to work after a short period of time we can get a more competent class of politicians.

actually, that the defense industry, while obscene is at least a recipient of spending/dollars and thus is not a party to the more destructive problem of austerity.    I'm actually for obscene defense spending if we get some of the other stuff.  This was the President's great insight on sequestration ; problem was, the GOP likes austerity more than defense.

on 'wasteful' defense spending (and we do spend too much on it), remember that we were pouring billions down the Pentagon hole during our nations late 90s  boom years, too.  It's really a systemic problem with total money outflows right now
