Kalliope
Means "beautiful voice" from Greek καλλος (kallos) "beauty" and οψ (ops) "voice". In Greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine Muses.

The keypad is mightier than the sword
(Writer's note:
I wanted to make this diary flow...)
America flows.
Come one,
come all,
to the land of plenty.
The supermarkets in America
are always well stocked,
and the food is cheap,
so have some children,
three or four,
maybe five.
However.
Every oil well
in the world
is giving up less oil
than yesterday.
Every farmer in America
with less fuel for the tractors,
less fuel for the combines,
is sending out less food
than yesterday.
More humans,
but less food.
Still more humans,
and still less food.
Many Americans
will kill each other,
fighting over food;
but maybe a few,
maybe most,
will see what's happening,
see what's unavoidable:
famine.
Famine,
grinding us down,
famine,
killing most of us,
whether we fight each other,
or not.
Maybe most Americans,
instead of fighting their neighbors,
will see the true enemy,
the famine itself,
and surrender.
Maybe most Americans
will surrender to famine.
Maybe some of them
will live blog their deaths,
keeping online journals,
at Facebook or Daily Kos.
Starvation is not
a painful way to die;
like carbon dioxide asphyxiation
or freezing to death,
you go to sleep,
and,
after a while,
your heart stops,
which hurts like hell,
but only for a moment.
Then all your moments are gone.
Thanks for reading.
Next week,
maybe I'll write about
the American survivors,
hunting feral hogs on horseback,
with compound bows,
and razor sharp arrows.
(Make sure you puncture the heart,
or those hogs will attack you,
injure your horse,
and try to kill you.)
