Welcome to the November 8, 2013 Post Game Show for Mojo Friday!
So TexDem asked what kind of fun you can have with your name ... I'd like to know where your name came from!
Of course, they come from many sources. Some families choose names based on current popularity, trying to fit in. Some choose names based on their perceptions of the relationship between names and future acceptance and success. Some choose names, well, 'cause they want to be creative and different. (I'm always struck by the names of early Christian's in the 17th and 18th centuries in settlements like Salem, MA, for example). Some choose them for family history, or to get away from family history. Some choose them to make a statement (poor child is my first thought).
In my case, my first name came from my grandfathers ... both of them, one of whom died well before I was born, the other who died when I was just about a year old. My middle name was my father's middle name, and his father's before him. So I have this family connection with generations past. And I passed it forward, my son's middle name is the same as mine. Even though adopted, we tried to give him that sense of connection too.
In today's poll, tell us how you came to be named as you did!
