Today is Veteran’s Day in the United States and Remembrance Day over in Great Britain. Today we honor those brave men and women who fought to save our freedom. Today I honor the veterans in my family.
Jack L. Wilson
My Dad Jack L. Wilson was a World War II veteran. Dad was very mechanically inclined and he helped to develop the IFF (Identify friend or foe technology). While clearing the house I came upon his certificate of commendation for his efforts in the war.
Norwood "Bud" Hughes
My Uncle Colonel Norwood Hughes was a career military man. He served in Europe in World War II.
Eugene Hughes
My Uncle Eugene Hughes lied about his age to get into the Army so he could do his part in World War II. He was captured and spent time in a German Prisoner of War camp.
Hazel Wilson
My Aunt Hazel Wilson joined the WACs in World War II.
My brother Michael Wilson was a Vietnam War veteran. He won the bronze star for bravery when he rushed out during an attack on his camp and rescued two of his comrades and was wounded in the process.
Dad, Mike, Uncle Bud, Uncle Gene were all buried with military honors. Aunt Hazel was cremated and had her ashes strewn over the ocean at her request.
Thank you for your service to our country.
