My dad always had a saying, "Think first and know when to quit".  Rep. Phil Gingrey (R. GA) is only taking half of my dad's advice:

With almost a year left of campaigning in Georgia's 2014 race to replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) has tied a heavy promise to his candidacy.

Gingrey released a 30-second video statement on Tuesday, reinvigorating his stance on Obamacare. As an OB-GYN with 26 years of practicing experience, Gingrey touts how as a doctor, he "took an oath to do no harm."

Thanks to the Senate, dozens of attempts to repeal or defund the "harmful" Obamacare law fell through. And that's where Gingrey's new U.S. Senate pledge comes in.

"I’ll help repeal Obamacare in my first term, or go home, because you deserve a senator who gets the job done or gets out of the way," Gingrey said. "Repeal or go home. That's my pledge to you." - Huffington Post, 11/12/13

I guess your 41st time is a charm:

“As a doctor, I took an oath to do no harm, and Obamacare is so harmful I voted to repeal or defund it over 40 times, but our efforts die in the Senate,” Mr. Gingrey, an obstetrician and gynecologist, said in the 30-second spot. “I’ll help repeal Obamacare in the first term or go home, because you deserve a senator who gets the job done or gets out of the way. Repeal or go home — that’s my pledge to you.”

Mr. Gingrey is running to replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss, a Republican, and has plenty of company. Reps. Paul C. Broun and Jack Kingston, as well as former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, are among those vying for the GOP nomination.

All three congressmen voted against a deal to extend the country’s borrowing limit and reopen the federal government last month. The vote was precipitated by an unsuccessful effort by some Republicans to defund Obamacare, causing a partial government shutdown. Mr. Chambliss voted for the deal. - Washington Times, 11/12/13

Here's a little more info about Gingrey's ad buy:

http://www.ajc.com/...

Described as a "six figure" effort by the Marietta Congressman's spokeswoman, the campaign includes a new website -- http://repealorgohome.com/ -- direct mail and a digital component.

The ad will run on cable for the next 10 days in Atlanta, Macon, Columbus and Augusta and features Gingrey dressed in his obstetrician/gynecologist garb. You can watch it above.

Former Secretary of State Karen Handel has been running radio ads for months, but Gingrey is the first to go on TV ahead of May's crowded Republican primary. Gingrey had $2.6 million in his campaign coffers at the end of September, as his fundraising slackened in the third quarter. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 11/12/13

Gingrey thinks that this ad will help him win the primary:

Gingrey's commercial underlines the central role Obamacare promises to play in all kinds of races across the country next year. Not only are Republicans eager to force Democratic candidates to answer for the problematic rollout of the health care law, they also are using it against one another in competitive primaries. One of Gingrey's rivals for the GOP nomination in Georgia, former Secretary of State Karen Handel, has been running radio ads in the districts represented by Gingrey, Rep. Paul Broun and Rep. Jack Kingston--all of whom are seeking the GOP nomination for the open Senate seat--saying that "Congress gets special treatment" under the health care law. And now Gingrey is upping the ante in his first ad, promising to leave the Senate if he doesn't help repeal the law in six years. - National Journal, 11/12/13
Lets hope so because either him or Paul Broun (R. GA) would give Michelle Nunn (D. GA) a much better chance at winning Saxby Chambliss' (R. GA) Senate seat.  If you would like to donate or get involved with Nunn's campaign, you can do so here:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
