Alas, we're about to say goodbye to another correspondent. John Oliver is moving to HBO to do a Daily Show clone. This is a shame because, except for Stephen, I think he was about the most gifted, incisive, and funniest ever as he proved during his summertime hosting gig. Also because I don't get HBO and I'm not about to pay $20 a month just to watch John Oliver (Yeah, I know, Game of Thrones. Listen I have a new Doctor or two coming up and I need another TV addiction like Rob Ford needs another hit of crack.).
I want to thank ericlewis0 for giving me the heads up on this and I'm sure we wish John all the best in his new blah, blah, blah.
Back to my regularly scheduled crap.
First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner.
So Jon hosts
Geoffrey Rush tonight, best known (to me) as the mutinous
Captain Hector Barbossa of
Pirates of the Carribean fame (or infamy, take your pick).
Still thinkin' of running, Jack? Think you can outrun the world? You know the problem with being the last of anything, by and by there be none left at all.
I really liked all of them, especially
At World's End which it seems everyone else hates. I think they just don't get it. What about "Prepare every vessel that floats. At dawn, we're at war." is so hard to understand?
I trust you to know your place in front of Captain Sao Feng. He's a lot like meself, but absent me merciful nature and sense of fair play.
Alas the next
Pirates is not scheduled until 2016 so we will probably hear about
The Book Thief instead.
Now Stephen has Alexis Ohanian who's an interesting character himself. They will probably talk mostly about reddit and his new book, Without Their Permission but what's of interest to me is his activism against SOPA/PIPA and how he feels about the latest revelations about TPP and NSA lawbreaking. Perhaps it will come up in context.
Now yesterday I promised all you aspiring volunteer authors a list of next week's guests-
The Daily Show
* Monday 11/18: Elizabeth Olsen
* Tuesday 11/19: Bill Cosby
* Wednesday 11/20: Jennifer Lawrence
* Thursday 11/21: Tom Brokaw
The Colbert Report
* Monday 11/18: Steve McQueen
* Tuesday 11/19: Rick Santorum
* Wednesday 11/20: M.I.A.
* Thursday 11/21: J.J. Abrams
Now at a glance I'd say Tuesday night is prime time for slander and calumny (I think Cos slipped into Clint territory a long time ago, though out of past greatness I might favor you with 'Froo, Froo, Froofy The Dog'). Thursday you get J.J. but you have to put up with (ugh) Brokaw.
Anyway, this lovely little platform could be yours if you but speak the word. It's only as hard as you make it.
