Because if they were called blogs or articles or essays I don't think I'd be writing this.

I'm moving.  Tomorrow I load up the truck and Sunday I hit the road.  I don't wanna leave Gainesville, I love it here.  But unfortunately my former employer objected to me, a mere non-exempt employee, having an opinion about things like justice.  Yep.  I, the clock-puncher, had the nerve to point out that us clock-punchers didn't get paid for any hours that the clock didn't record while the non clock-punchers... well, that's not really what this is about.

Nor is it about my suspicion that I wasn't REALLY let go because I fibbed one morning about why I was 10 minutes late to work, but rather that I was let go because of my advocacy for and participation in groups like Occupy Gainesville, Move to Amend, Dream Defenders and so on.

OK, it's kinda about those things but here's what's really on my mind.

It's about the kinda life I wanna live.  It's about how places like Daily Kos nurture me.

It's about living the things that the faith I grew up in spawned.  The faith that taught me that the most important thing is to love one another.  The faith that challenged me by demanding that the one who casts the first stone be the one who considers herself sinless. The faith that recognized that cruelty and greed fucks up the whole next seven generations.  Yeah, that faith.

So, I'm moving.  I don't want to leave, but I'm not scared.  Because I know that regardless of the pre-adolescent mindsets and behaviors of most national politicians and corporate execs, there exist in great numbers good people who know how to use power in a beneficial way.  Very few of them have much money, all of them have much soul.  They aren't name-callers or reputation bashers or jump-to-conclusioners.  They are people who think deeply, advocate boldly, humbly change their minds when persuaded by factual information heretofore unknown to them, and keep trying regardless of the shitty tactics of those less grounded in goodness.  I find those people here on DK, and for that I am grateful.

So, I'm moving.  See you, dear diary, on the other side.  Thanks for being here~

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
