This is a real question that i ask above. we all fly on these jets. are we ok that they are slashing worker wages?
The south Carolina plant pays it workers half as much as their Washington state counterparts.
The SC plant workers have fewer benefits, weaker workplace protections, and their voice to collectively voice concerns and opinions has been muted for fear of job loss.
Is it any wonder that the SC is slower to produce, and isn't anywhere near as efficient as the Washington state plant?
Boeing is demanding massive tax breaks, that is money that won't be going to schools, workers are in effect paying for those tax breaks. Boeing employees are paying their employers as a bribe, what's the payoff for the employees- they get to work for lower wages, while the Boeing managers make larger and larger bonuses.
Boeing wants to turn this country in China or Bangladesh, they wish to extract every single cent they can from labor and from the state.
the saddest part of this is, the workers will rack their bodies, and give their time to the company- they will do this for lower wages, and less tax for their home state (that tax revenue funds essential public services, fire dept, school etc etc) then after Boeing extracts everything that they can, they will leave the state or the country as quickly as they can.
at some point, Boeing will be able to slash their workforce even more drastically as robotics mature, at that point, what will the lower wages, and tax breaks really mean?
Managers will get to keep their millions, but the workers will be unemployable, instead of settling for less, workers need fight for more, and they need to fight for it now!
capital in the name of profit will make labor redundant, we need to stop this while we still can. no one should sell their labor, their time, for the minimum wage! people are worth more than that.
