I just received an email from my senator, Bob Corker. In the email, he asks:
"How has Obamacare affected you, your family, or small business? Share your story here."
I decided to share my story with Senator Corker:
I was able to complete my Obamacare application and sign up for coverage on Friday, Nov. 15, so the site is working now. My family of three will receive full health coverage for $260 per month. After I left a job in May, our COBRA rate was quoted at $1,500 per month, an amount we could not afford so we did not take the insurance. In 2010, the last time I was self-employed, our rate was $481 per month, but that plan had exclusions for some of our medical conditions and is closed to us now. I am thrilled that we are now able to have full coverage through the Marketplace for far less than we paid before and that we don't have to worry about losing coverage in the future. Because of Obamacare, I was able to restart my home business without fear of not being able to get health coverage or going bankrupt due to huge medical bills. Please do not take any actions that will hurt our ability to keep this coverage at this great rate in the future. Thank you.
I know, I know, nobody's going to change their mind because we email our stories to them. But somebody is going to read them and see that not everyone has a bad experience. Who knows, they may get more good stories than bad.
So, go ahead, share your story with Senate Republicans. Keep it civil and fight the good fight!
