I have two things I want to talk about tonight, TV and cactusgal's travels.
First TV. I don't watch much network TV. About the only shows I watch, and they are DVR'd, is Big Bang Theory and Parks and Recreation. I was surprised three days ago when I read a list of TV shows the rich watch (rich was defined as folks who make over $82,000 per year). Parks and Recreation was one of the top two. The other one was Modern Family.
Because I DVR the shows I can zip through the commercials (as in not have to watch them). But the other night I was busy doing something (trimming) and my fingers were all gummed up with resin...so I didn't fast forward through the commercials but something struck me. It's been years really since I watched network TV and the commercials. Things have changed. The commercials for TV shows are mean. What I mean by that is they show funny zingers and put downs of people. All of them are like that. It's one thing to have the characters in a TV show be snarky like that to the other characters with whom they have a relationship (like in Big Bang Theory), but the commercials show them being like that to perfect strangers.
Of course I realize this is just a reflection of our modern society. Putting others down with quick wit is the norm. The message is people you don't know don't matter so go right ahead and use them...put them down with quick wit and funny insults to show how smart you can be.
It struck me that it would be so much better if commercials showed people caring about other's feelings instead of zinging smart put downs...just a thought.
BUT it's perfectly OK to have some fun at each others expense when you do have rapport and a relationship with them. Now that is fun.
So where the crap is cactusgal? She hassled me until I gave her a map to Paradise, California from Bumfruck, Arizona.
She's got a leaky hose she claims that spews crap and stuff from her porta-potty too.
She also has GPS and was smart to map out all the places to stop along the way for, well she calls them "supplies."
And she took those little quizzes that were in New Day last week. The first quiz lets you know if you were more right-brained or left-brained or a balance of the two. It turns out she is neither right-brained or left-brained. I thought those were the only choices, however she got bird-brained.
She took the Dr. Phil quiz twice and here are her results (I'm confused):
Today the New Day question was about minimum wage jobs we've had. Turns out cactusgal has had minimum wage jobs in the food industry like most of us have. Navajo talked about being a waitress and learning how to get a good tip. Cactusgal was a waitress too and she even had a video of how she and another waitress treated their customers. Did this get good tips?
