Little information is available, but Virginia state senator and former Democratic gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds is hospitalized after a stabbing at his home:
Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, is in critical condition after being stabbed in his home and his son Gus is dead from a gunshot wound, law enforcement sources told the Richmond Times-Dispatch this morning.

Deeds is being treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Authorities said they are trying to determine the sequence of events at the Deeds home in Bath County early today.

Condolences to his family and best wishes for his recovery.

8:00 AM PT: Take it with the usual grain of salt applied to early reports on terrible events, but:

Virginia State Senator Creigh Deeds was stabbed by his son, Austin "Gus" Deeds before the son fatally shot himself, Democratic sources tell News4.
