At only age 22, Magnus Carlsen has defeated the 43-year old Viswanathan Anand by a score of 6.5 points to 3.5 (with 6.5 necessary out of 12) to win the men's world chess championship. In a twelve-game series (that required only ten) Carlsen won three games and drew the other seven.
Very little coverage in the English-speaking press, other than in defending champ Viswanathan Anand's India (and where the tournament took place. But Carlsen (the second-youngest champion ever) deserves a place in Barbara Walter's annual "10 Most Interesting People".
