I'm in the situation where I need to find my own place for myself and my two Siamese. So I'm looking at ads on craigslist trying to find someone to room with us.
Now most rental properties are requiring renters to have three times the rent each month in income before you can rent from them. So my princely $710 a month in social security means I can only rent apartments that cost $236 a month or less. Making my search for housing a formidable task.
So I'm looking in the roommates section in an attempt to find housing. But those options have their own pitfalls. One ad was a warning about a violent person who had put an ad up. But this section in this next ad takes the cake:
After a month in the hospital, my credit cards are maxed out, because the wages weren't there. My small business is closing. Self employment means no unemployment benefits.
My lease expires in February, so I'm looking for someone to share or sublease my studio apartment in Beaverton until then. I can then end the lease and live in my car until I kill myself.
Evidence that we are a failed state when it comes to the general welfare. Most of us are one illness away from losing everything like this person. A preventable situation in countries where people supersede profits but the norm here.
I'll spend my time this week putting applications in at HUD housing apartment blocks. Although there are basically two property management companies running most of the HUD housing in this county applicants have to go to each individual housing location and place a multi page application at them individually. Because we have plenty of time and transit fare to go to every HUD building in town I guess.
For the most part individual apartments and houses on Craig's list if they are affordable are a scam. Either the person claiming to rent does not own the property or the ad is just phishing. So look at the property and make sure it isn't just a house on the real estate market being used to scam you into sending your rent money to them.
