All the recent hubbub about the SCOTUS agreeing to hear cases concerning a company's right to choose whether to include contraceptive coverage in its employee health plan has got me thinking. My knee jerk reaction was to roll my eyes (again) at these bible thumpers. But upon reflection, I agree with them. Here's why:
My religion tells me that "Thou Shalt Not Kill." Therefore, I assume I cannot be forced to pay taxes that support 2 wars, assorted drone strikes, or any number of other military engagements.
I believe Islam forbids the loaning of money and/or charging interest? Think of all the money our Muslim citizens will save by not having to pay taxes to support paying the interest on the national debt.
You see where I am going with this.
Sometimes people have to pay for things to which they are opposed in the interest of the greater public good (as determined by our elected representatives, anyway, whether we agree or not). The Affordable care act mandates that comprehensive health plans cover certain things - such as birth control. Employers don't get a line item veto - period.
