The guitar Bob Dylan played at the Newport Folk Festival is going on sale. Christie's is handling the auction.
That's pretty cool and there's nothing wrong with that.
However,.....the hype with which they are selling this is just ridiculous
Here's a video.

The auction guy refers to it as "birth certificate of rock and roll."
That's right, rock and roll didn't get a birth certificate until it was at least 10 years old.
He goes on and says "You can say that Rock and Roll was born that day" and "The 60's were born that day."
I'm glad Dylan went electric and it is a seminal moment in rock and roll history. I'm glad he picked such a killer band, The Band, to back him up, but let's be very, clear about this. Dylan was playing catch up.
By the time he went electric, the Beatles had already broken in America and appeared multiple times on the Ed Sullivan show.
The Stones has already played America and moved from strictly cover songs to writing their own material. They recorded (in America) and released, their first US #1 hit, Satsifaction.
The Beach Boys had already released Surfin' Safari and Surfing USA
Phil Spector produced several hits including a rock and roll Christmas Album with this gem on it.

Jerry Lee Lewis was a star by 1957.
Little Richard was in movies by 1956
Chuck Berry's first record was this reworking of a hillbilly number called Ida Red which he called Maybellene. That was 1955.
Bo Diddley already got himself banned from the Ed Sullivan show for doing this number instead the song they asked him to play in 1955
Then there was this guy who beat them all to vinyl. This came out in 1954.
The guy who produced that one, also produced this one way back in 1951. Some say it was the first.
