The federal health insurance exchange web site, HealthCare.gov,
handled more than 950,000 visits on Tuesday without any major hiccups at all. Sources also tell Politico that
29,000 enrollments were completed on Sunday and Monday—that's more than the whole month of October.
The preliminary numbers for the two-day period provide the clearest evidence yet that the federal exchange is on the mend. About 26,000 people selected a health plan during the October and about 100,000 people did so in November, the official said.
That's just for HealthCare.gov and the 36 states it's covering. It doesn't include data from the 14 states that have their own exchanges. At this pace, more than 325,000 people could be enrolled by the December 23 deadline for policies that take effect January 1. That's
significantly trailing the administration's target. The
big push from President Obama and congressional Democrats will need to be sustained to drive those numbers higher.
