Relic
Step out of darkness.
Emerge from cabinets and caskets, out of locked drawers.
Come forth from dusty crates and stained cartons
you forgotten objects, misplaced talismans and fetishes.
The watch-fobs and china dolls of ancestors
throw off their coats of tissue and cotton-wool.
We hold a memory in our hand
of one we knew, or only knew of.
Their minds live on in our minds.
Their bodies live on in our bodies.
The soil and the water carry traces of the dead.
The living shall float on fire and air.
The books and brass and bijous of glass
remind us that our mothers and fathers rest in the earth and sea.
Kalliope
Means "beautiful voice" from Greek καλλος (kallos) "beauty" and οψ (ops) "voice". In Greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine Muses.
