Received this e-mail today from congressional candidate Rob Zerban's (D. WI-01) campaign regarding the latest budget proposal co-authored by his opponent, Rep. Paul Ryan (R. WI-01):
The extremist GOP has taken the nation to the brink – shutting down the government, threatening default of our debts, and imposing an austerity agenda that has cost jobs and hurt the middle class.
In my view, Paul Ryan is the primary reason our economy is struggling. Instead of investing in America and ensuring we increase demand, he’s focused on cutting those programs that the neediest among us rely on. Instead of focusing on creating jobs, he’s trying to slash Social Security and Medicare.
This week, the Congress is debating a budget “compromise” that fails to extend long-term unemployment benefits, cuts military and federal worker pay, and does nothing to invest in job creation. It's appalling that this bill fails to close even one corporate tax loophole, costing the government $150 billion a year – which means the average taxpayer pays more than $1,000 a year to cover the cost.
Please sign my petition calling for closing corporate tax loopholes instead of cutting the pay of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who put their lives on the line every day.

Corporate profits are at an all-time high. The rich are doing better than ever, while middle class wages are flat and long-term unemployment is devastating families. And lobbyists in Washington are working overtime to maintain the privileges of the ultra-wealthy.
We can do better.
Will you stand with me to call upon Congress to close corporate tax loopholes?

Together, we can defeat Paul Ryan and restore the right priorities for our country’s future.
Yours,
Rob Zerban
