Seems like it was just weeks, maybe months ago that today’s Radical Right-wing Republican Party’s agenda was to cut the Big 3: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. And surely those right-wingers continue to want to make mincemeat of those amazingly effective and very popular programs.
That same party continues to want to restrict women’s rights, voting rights, workers’ rights, and the rights of LGBT folks.
And of course, they still want to widen the gap between the rich and the rest of us.
But now the Radical Right-wing Republican Party seems to have a new Big 3 in their agenda:
1. Cutting off unemployment insurance as if people were unemployed because they want to be. Note to Rand Paul: Americans do not like being unemployed.
2. Stopping any increase in the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Had the minimum wage kept up with the cost of living since 1968, the minimum wage would be almost $10.50 an hour.
3. Working to continue to deny health insurance and healthcare to millions of Americans by continuing their ceaseless assault on the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare.
Of course, as we’d expect, all items on that agenda serve to worsen the lives of working Americans and all average Americans.
These right-wing policy items would also take money out of the pockets of average Americans, and take desperately needed money out of the American economy thus at least prolonging and maybe deepening the GREAT AMERICAN RECESSION.
In 2009 economist Dr. Richard Levins and I wrote a little book called Getting America Back to Work that called for the American government to make investments in the future of the American economy, and to restore the right of all workers in America to form unions and bargain collectively. That program would have created jobs, put money in workers’ pockets, and created consumer demand and consumer activity so we could crawl out of the economic ditch.
The Radical Right-wing Republican Party’s agenda is an assault on America and Her People.
