Eight years ago, I became so frustrated with my local CBS affiliate that I posted a comment about it here at Daily Kos:
Cincinnati's CBS affiliate is shamelessly right-wing. They consistently post conservative commentary on their news page, and they don't identify it as "opinion" or "commentary."
...Please write to WKRC and tell them to either remove these right-wing columns from their news page, or to clearly identify them as opinion pieces.
Thanks to all the Kossacks who wrote the station, we got results really fast. Before I knew it, those opinion columns were removed from the WKRC-TV website.
Well, now I have another favor to ask of the Kos community. Please check below the fold for how you can help.
WKRC-TV got better for a while, but they're slipping back into their old biased ways. If you visit the Top Stories page of their website, you'll find a "Newsmax Headlines" widget that provides all the latest right-wing talking points. (Newsmax, as you might know, is a far-right "news" organization akin to Fox News or WorldNetDaily. They published the phony Hillary Snubs Gold Star Mothers story as well as the bogus Obama’s Vatican Ambassador Rejected story.) Here are some of the stories the right-wingers at Newsmax are currently focused on:
- $2.8M Welfare Fraud Busted in Florida
- Disability Funds Depleted Under Obama
- O'Reilly: Megyn Is Right, Santa Is White
It's not hard to see the narratives Newsmax is trying to reinforce with these stories. (Respectively: Lazy poor people! Big-spending Democrat! Racist dog-whistle!) And day after day, people here in the Cincinnati area are being exposed to this crap.
So here's what I'm asking you to do: Contact WKRC-TV and tell them that Newsmax is not a reputable news source and should be removed from WKRC-TV's website.
(While you're at it, you might want to give them feedback on their "Poll of the Day," found on their home page. Today's absurdly loaded question: "Should Congress stop looking for new sources of revenue while the feds waste billions every year?")
You guys really came through for me eight years ago. Let's do it again!
