I'll keep this brief.
The clamor of the Right over the suspension of Phil Robertson would be nauseating, were there not an important political point writ large in the noise machine.
They appear to be making the point that it should be unlawful, indeed unconstitutional to fire anyone for expressing their religious or political views.
This is something I could support, so let's ask our opponents how we can work together to make this happen!
This would not in any way be a restriction on the economic freedoms of employers, merely a prohibition on them firing folk for religious or political views. It appears that both sides of the political divide agree that this would be a good idea.
