Another year, another War on Christmas won by the villainous Secular Progressives (led, of course, by you know who).
It was easy this year. The Pro-Christmas Side fell victim to a self-inflicted wound perpetrated by Fox News Senior Ice Castle* Megyn Kelley's pronouncement that both Santa and Jesus were unquestionably and verifiably white, and white, respectively. They had no chance after that "own goal" -- The proliferation of Festivus poles throughout the land was merely the coup de grace.
Victory achieved, it's time for we Jews to salve our battle wounds, take a nice, warm bath and then head out for a movie and Asian Fusion Cuisine. (Gotta move on, don't we?)
I'll give you a topic -- Discuss: Why are our two New York Senators defying the administration and co-sponsoring the Iran Sanctions bill. Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck -- It's one thing to protect the carried interest loophole for hedge funds, but this?
And Kirsten? What happened to that new Senator who was one of the seven Senators who had the guts to vote against defunding ACORN?
Is Foxman that fearsome? Has David Mamet gotten to you? Jackie Mason? The ghost of Ed Koch? Better to listen to your CA (Jewish!) counterparts, Feinstein and Boxer, who oppose more sanctions.
On to the more positive. Each year the Jewish Daily Forward (which still publishes a Yiddish edition) has the Forward 50 recognizing achievements in Activism, Community, Culture, Sports, Politics, and Media. There's also a "Top Five," which included:
Veronique Pozner (Newtown Parent Activist)
Edith Windsor (DOMA Plaintiff)
Phillip Roth (Nu? I have to tell you?)
Joseph Neubauer (Philanthropist who funded the Pew study of American Jews)
Sheryl Sandberg (Lean In author)
There's also a
Shande (Shame) section, which included Baseball drug abuser Ryan Braun, Serial Harasser Ex-Mayor Bob Filner and William Rapfogel, Poverty Thief (stole $5 million from the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty). Nobody on the Madoff (or even Eric Cantor) scale, but still a motley, disreputable group.
Finally, Drew Barrymore announced early in the year that she was converting to Judaism, and even had painful tattoo removal surgery as part of the process. Commitment!
So that's my review for the year of Thanksgivukkah. What are your highlights of the year in Jew? Mentsh's? Shandes? Schmendricks?
Please contribute your Jewish people, moments, highlights in the comments!
*Stephen Colbert's extremely apt coinage.
