John Hagee used his last sermon before Christmas at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio to rail about those big, bad atheists and unbelievers who don't like hearing "Merry Christmas." In Hagee's view, anyone who doesn't like hearing it should pack up and leave--now. People for the American Way got a clip.
Hagee said that this country was founded on Christian principles, and we are still one nation under God--both of which drew stormy applause from his flock. To his mind, anyone who is offended by a manger scene ought to go ahead and leave. "Planes are leaving every hour on the hour--get on one!" he said--again to stormy applause.
I hope I'm misinterpreting what the San Antonio Ayatollah is saying here. I really am. If I'm hearing Hagee right, he just told nearly every member of a minority religion in this country to pack up and leave. Including the Jews--even though Hagee bills himself as a fervent Zionist.
Then again, this is a natural progression for fundies. After all, a few years back, Matt Barber of Liberty Council said that anyone who says "Happy Holidays" is a pinko at best and an out-and-out Communist at worst. In other words, in the Christianists' warped view of reality, acknowledging that Christmas isn't the only major winter holiday is a sign that you're somehow evil.
