Dear god, Heritage has gone
beyond stupid.
How Obamacare Will Try to Control What You Eat
Did you know there are 34 million different ways to make a Domino’s pizza?
Mary Lynne Carraway can’t fit that on a menu board. But that’s what Obamacare says she has to do: Put up a menu board in each of her 60 Domino’s stores that tells people the calorie count of every possible combination. Of course, all the information is already available online.
First of all, how will providing calorie counts "control what you eat"? Don't ask me. Or the author of that piece, either, because the closest it comes to explaining it is, "The FDA tries to justify the rule by claiming that consumers make misinformed decisions at restaurants". So yeah, giving people more information is an attempt to "regulate what they eat".
But it gets even dumber. That post has a link to this Heritage report on the nutritional labeling requirement, which starts with this:
Obamacare requires restaurant chains to provide caloric and other nutritional information to customers on standard menu items.
So, is Dominos Pizza arguing that it has 34 million pizzas listed on its standard menu? Obviously not. So here's a tip to Dominos, free of charge: List the calorie total for a plain cheese pizza. Then go online and google "pepperoni", and then where you list pepperoni as a topping option, add the number of calories for that topping. Same with green pepper and anchovies and whatever else you offer. Great idea, right? It's not my own! It's been done a million times! Like the Chipotle menu at the top of this post.
Chipotle didn't include a separate calorie count for "bean and beef burrito hold the lettuce add corn and tomatillo sauce" because they're not morons like the Dominos people. Apparently, the shittier the pizza, the more like Herman Cain their CEOs are likely to be.
Restaurants in places like New York and Seattle already have to provide this info, and somehow those cities have survived this socialistic apocalypse. In fact, such labeling is hugely popular. Heritage's position against labeling puts it in the distinct minority fringe—the tiny few who don't want information about what they're putting in their mouths.
