Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. In March of this year I turned 65 which I guess is the official start of being old since they sent me a Medicare card and I live on Social Security. I have been thinking about that momentous event and the past year. Follow me below the orange squiggly-de-do for my thoughts on being old.
As I type this my Christmas gift is sitting on the cabinet next to me. I keep trying to convince my brothers that what I want for Christmas, my birthday, etc. is Viggo Mortensen. I mean is that too much to ask for? My niece got me a Strider doll and I have lots of fun pushing the button on the back which makes the sword arm swing up and down. He is with my John Shepherd, Han Solo, Qui Gon Jinn, Doctor Beverly Crusher, and Indiana Jones dolls. We won't mention the number of other toys that are there. The room is full of stuffed animals. My bank is a Tardis that makes all sorts of lovely sounds and has dialog from my favorite Doctor, David Tennant. Maybe I'm a little deficient on the old people don't play with toys bit.
A few of my toys.
Old people aren't supposed to be strong and lift weights. I lift 106 pounds several times a day getting my brother up and down. It astonishes my brother that I can lift him up when he falls.
I am now caregiver to my brother Reid.
I know old ladies are supposed to sit quietly with their knitting. The last thing I knit was an accurate replica of the Fourth Doctor's scarf from Doctor Who. It is six feet long. Well it is knitting!
The family as Doctor Who.
I took my
first train trip across country this year. I wrote about it and put it on my website. What do you mean old people aren't supposed to write about a train trip from the point of view of their Fl'obble? He had so much fun.
CJ packed and ready to go.
I even got him his own cow since he loved seeing cows for the first time.
CJ loves his cow.
And of course I did a great deal of work on my cookbook that I am calling
Michele and L'arpie Michele Love to Cook. I have a lot of the
recipes online. L'arpie Michele features in a lot of the pictures. You don't put a
L'arpie in your food pictures?

And of course I decorated for Christmas. I think my sister-in-law feels I over decorated for Christmas. It is supposed to be a festive time of year and of course I made sure my bears were out. What can be more Christmassy than teddy bears?
The Jingle Bear family.
I have my wonderful quilt that the Daily Kos community made for me. My special friends share the bed with it during the day. My pink unicorn Valentine has place of honor. What? Are you really going to try and tell me old people don't believe in unicorns?
My quilt and friends and Valentine the magical unicorn.
And of course I continued to do my artwork which featured lots of dragons, and unicorns, and other magical creatures.
In the Garden
You know something? I think this old people stuff is overrated. It is boring. I think I'm going to have to admit that I can't do it. I'll just have to be me instead.
