Earlier today, the New York Times David Kirkpatrick appeared on Meet the Press to discuss his report which suggests al-Qaeda wasn't involved in the attacks on the American embassy in Benghazi. Watch part one of his interview here and part two here.
Kirkpatrick thinks the GOP is conflating local Islamists with al-Qaeda.
"If you're using the term al Qaeda to describe even a local group of Islamist militants who dislike democracy or have a grudge against the United States, If you're going to call anybody like that 'al Qaeda,' then, okay," he said.
He added that anyone in the intelligence community would know that al-Qaeda wasn't leading the attacks.
Despite this, Issa shows no signs of backing down, if his own appearance on MTP is any indication. Watch part one here and part 2 here. While he gave Kirkpatrick credit for his paper, he said that interviewing people after the fact wasn't the same as real-time information. He maintained there was a group linked with al-Qaeda. When Andrea Mitchell pointed out that most people associate "al-Qaeda" with bin Laden's central group, Issa insisted that it was accurate because al-Qaeda isn't a centrally run organization. He also stood by his claim that the White House lied to the American people.
Yet more proof that facts have a librul bias.
