Monday! And as New Year's Eve approaches, I thought it would be fun to post a few toasts, even though I personally will most likely be asleep by 10:30, as usual. And I don't particularly like champagne. We have six or seven bottles, all gifts, and I really wanted to have a party so that we could serve them all to friends and get rid of them =) I need to start regifting them, I think.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
Toasts can range from the deeply profound to the sublimely silly. Below are a few that I like:
To Happiness:
"May you have the hindsight to know where you've been,
The foresight to know where you are going,
And the insight to know when you have gone too far."
To Friendship:
"There are good ships,
and there are wood ships,
The ships that sail the sea.
But the best ships, are friendships,
And may they always be."
And a Happy New Year!
To Friendship:
"Here's to you and here's to me,
Friends may we always be!
But, if by chance we disagree,
Up yours! Here's to me!"

Here’s to our guest—
Don’t let him rest.
But keep his elbow bending.
‘Tis time to drink—
Full time to think
Tomorrow—when you’re mending.

This says it all :)
To our host,
An excellent man;
For is not a man
Fairly judged by the
Company he keeps?

Meow!
Alcohol—a liquid good for preserving almost anything except secrets.

Here’s to love.
It doesn’t make the world go ’round,
It’s what makes the ride worthwhile.
— Franklin P. Jones
Cheers!
Here’s to the temperance supper,
With water in glasses tall,
And coffee and tea to end with—
And me not there at all.

Here’s to us that are here, to you that are there, and the rest of us everywhere.
— Rudyard Kipling
May we breakfast with Health, dine with Friendship, crack a bottle with Mirth, and sup with the goddess Contentment.

And one from an ex-fiance of mine, translated into English: "Health, Love, Money, and the time to enjoy them all." It sounds better in Spanish =)
Do you have a favorite toast, or a family one? I've mentioned my Irish heritage before, in passing. These are a few blessings from family dinners. One grandmother was 100% Irish, one was half Irish and half Italian. One grandfather was half Irish and half French.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
May your troubles be less
And your blessings be more.
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
And quick to make friends.
But rich or poor,
Quick or slow,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.
May you have food and raiment,
A soft pillow for your head,
May you be forty years in heaven
Before the devil knows you're dead.
Caveat!!
