I wrote a post a month ago that seems to have gotten a small group of gun enthusiasts all up in arms. Good.
While they do not know me they seem to acknowledge that the position I choose to stand behind - that the average American has no use in their home for an AK47 or any other similar way-too-powerful-for-anyone's-good killing device - is gaining momentum. Great. Because I mean nothing in this debate.
Here is the thread and here is one opinion of the post:
Progressive new speak at it's finest. Gun control equals "common sense gun safety legislation" and responsible gun owner means "one who keeps their gun stored, unloaded, at a government operated target range".
For those who are brave, take a look at this diatribe. Warning, contains course language directed at pro 2A rights believers. Make sure your sitting down and your last meal is well digested least you puke it up.
Good. I hope you people do puke - but I'm sure you'll end up doing so not at the outrage of what happened in Newtown but instead at how it personally affects your hobby because, lets face it, that's more important, right? If only others saw guns the way you see them:
Lots of those Latte sippers love paintball, or airsoft, or shootem up video games. Or even laser tag. If we could find a way to get them to shooting ranges, I bet a large % of them would be hooked, and we would have some serious numbers build up on our side.
Lets all be honest, probably none of us got "into guns" because we wanted to support the 2nd Amend. We enjoy shooting, hunting, and the right to protect & defend ourselves and our families. So while the Constitutional Argument certainly needs to be made, getting "our numbers up", probably depends on us being viewed favorably, and what we do being seen as being "Cool & Fun".
Cool and fun. Oh, and at least once a day someone is killed by one of your "toys."
After a few expected insults, one of these nuts got one thing right when discussing my post:
He's nobody except a person gathering political momentum to set fire to the Constitution. And such thinking when publicly backed by a microphone and such closed-door tactics can lead to influencing the minds of our hirelings in Congress, and the voters themselves.
For that reason, alone, I'd think we should care deeply that such people and such tactics exist. If he were just spittin' in the wind, that would be one thing. But he's spitting on the Constitution and attempting to bring it down by corrupting our hired staff and tens of millions of voters. Him, and thousands like him who attempt to influence our hirelings to such crimes against the Constitution. Depends on POV, but I hope we would all take such things seriously, for the serious threats they represent.
That's right, guys. I am a nobody. But what I believe is what a lot of us who are connected to tragedy believe and it IS gaining momentum. You know why? Because the death of 20 children DOES MATTER. It's not a talking point. It's not a political win. It's a horror. And you should continue to run scared like the cowards you've always been.
