I have my limits because of health but I am in really high spirits for making this coming year a great one.  The past year was strange one but it is behind us.  The future is ours if we take it.  Much to do and much to work for.  Rather than just be comfortable about the ACA let's work for a no profit single payer health care system.

Rather than spend our time and words castigating the republicans, backward as they are, let us be devoted to progress and building a new world whatever way we can.

There is only one way to conquer hate and that is with love.  Writing endless words about how stupid others are hardly qualifies for love.

We have to govern ourselves.  We can't sit back and let that be blocked by anyone.  The way to fight it is to find ways of getting things done rather than bemoaning the fact that we were blocked.

Do I have the answers?  Of course not.  No one of us does.  It will take a massive collective effort to forge ahead.  Read on below and help me explore our options.

In the 1960s we had a movement that seemed to be doing what I am asking.  When government or private agents failed people banded together and created "Parallel Institutions".

Elections will be important but could also prevent other good things from happening if allowed to drain us or satisfy our desire to do something.  I suggest that for every dollar and every hour you spend on elections you also do something else to build a working society.  Don't ask me what.  That is up to you.

I will hopefully see my 78th birthday in March.  I look forward to a year of writing and using my mind to explore new territories.  We are an arrogant species and that is a shame for we do have a lot of good mental capacity if we could only stop thinking we are so great.

Some say insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the results to change.  For a lot of reasons that is a trite statement but it does come very close to the truth.

So many of our tasks need a fresh approach.  It takes time, effort, and deep study to find new ways.  Time is running out on us.  The global warming crisis will not wait for us to become effective.

The soil and water sources will not wait for us to stop ruining them.

The hungry can not wait for us to redistribute resources so all can share.

The need for people to come together to help each other can not wait for us to understand that Nations are obsolete barriers to human cooperation.

This first day of the new year is the time for dedicating ourselves to getting the job done.  No excuses.  It is time for the insanity to stop.  We really do not need a weatherman to tell us which way the wind is blowing.  You are either part of the solution or you are the problem.  Happy New Year!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
