For your Friday afternoon reading pleasure, here's this article from the Houston Chronicle.
That's right: Ted Cruz, who back in August (when it was apparently first brought to his attention that he is, in fact, a Canadian citizen by virtue of being born in Calgary), is still a Canadian citizen.
So why hasn't he renounced it yet? Is it because Canada has a long, complicated process in order to renounce citizenship? Well, no, says Vancouver immigration attorney Richard Kurland:
Kurland said Friday that unless there's a security or mental health issue that hasn't been disclosed, renouncing citizenship is a simple, quick process.
"If he's attempting to bring our system into disrepute by suggesting it's lengthy and complex, it's just not true. Revocation is one of the fastest processes in our system," said Kurland.
What is it? Is Ted Cruz considered a security risk? Insane? (Not in the typical Tea Party insanity sense, but in an actual not-sane sense.)
Or is there some particular reason why United States Senator Ted Cruz is still a Canadian citizen months after he said he would renounce his citizenship? My guess: free health care.
