Update:

KCRA TV is reporting that she has been recovered - is safe and the perp is in Custody!
And - then they went to commercial! Ok, they're back.

He pulled a gun and kidnapped her. Found in the car down by the docks in Antioch. And - that is all they are saying.

"Docks in Antioch" could mean anything. By the bridge? Old town Antioch? I'm just glad they found her and the perp is in custody.

Update: From the comments:

WakeUpNeo posted a link to SFGate -

Police believe the kidnapper followed the mother and daughter home after the two had shopped at the Walmart store at 4893 Lone Tree Way in Antioch. The incident comes a day after an attempted abduction at the same store, with a man matching the description from Friday's incident trying unsuccessfully to kidnap a young girl, Vanderklugt said.
Emphasis mine. Not good. Please tweet and FB to get this info out. If this is the same guy - this is really ugly.

Original Post:

I would not normally do this but - the details are a bit disturbing. May not be a custody thing. Fox 40 (yea, I know but I was watching the football game) just mentioned that the guy may have followed the mom and kid from a local Walmart.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Looks like a relatively happy ending, this time.

For an amber alert. I knew it was incredibly serious that authorities were using the emergency broadcast system to reach into far counties to get the word out. When I checked out KCRA, I immediately understood why.

This is an amazing ending. Local law enforcement and the community are to be congratulated for jumping into action.

Scary scary scary. With a miraculous ending. We often criticize LEOs here, usually with good reason.

Tonight, they have earned gratitude and respect.

  •  OT, perhaps (0+ / 0-)

but diaries just republishing very local Amber alerts (or lost dog alerts, as we've had in the past few days) strike me as pretty much clutter in the "recent diaries" list (though much better intentioned than the rock-crusher ads. . .). The chances of them reaching someone who didn't hear about them on local news or driving up the highway is pretty slim, and for the rest of us, it feels like "ain't it awful" disaster porn.

I'd be more interested in someone analyzing the whole phenomenon -- how many of the alerts nationwide are actually family custody battles? how many are runaway/throwaway teens? how many are young girls enticed by someone online? how often does the massive publicity actually lead to finding the child, and how often does that come through old-fashioned police work?

    •  Well said. Disaster porn. (0+ / 0-)

And local. And not much of a disaster.

      •  ... (7+ / 0-)

Not everyone has a TV or watches TV if they do have one. You have a choice to not click on a diary. Simple. Do not click.

It would be a disaster to you, no matter how local, if it was a child you know or love that had been kidnapped and you would probably want the word to get out in every way possible. Think it over.

Nothing wrong with these diaries. As you said, nobody's making us open them.

In this context, that is the definition of noise. This is a problem for both readers and posters.

When you post a diary that is of no value to most Kos readers, you make it that much harder for them to find those that they should be reading.  For the poster spending time "talking" to people who can be of little help to you is a distraction from thinking about -- and then doing something about -- focusing communication toward people more able to help.

          •  Exactly. (0+ / 0-)

"Please help me get my cat out of the tree" is a fine thing to holler at your neighbor, but it is not appropriate for posting on an international web site. Same thing with Amber Alerts. The reason the authorities don't broadcast Amber Alerts globally is that only local dissemination matters. But count on Kossacks to say "hey rest of the country, we've got an abducted kid here in San Diego, pay attention". And others to say "oh no, I pray the child is safe, keep us informed...".

which connect LA to Seattle, and San Francisco to the East Coast. Missing kids from all over the nation could end up here. I want to know what is happening so I can keep an eye open for them. If you're not interested, don't open the diaries. But if there is even a chance that a child's life might be saved because someone takes a few minutes to share a news story, how can you possibly object to that?

      •  So why don't we just stop blogging (0+ / 0-)

about politics and do nothing but discuss all of the thousands of missing children, and abandoned children, and children who need money to get a needed surgery? Why just tune in for the random Amber Alert that somebody feels like broadcasting?

        •  Why do we have postings about cats? (0+ / 0-)

The weather? The loss of a loved one? This site is more than just politics, and always had been. Posts about missing kids don't hurt anyone. And maybe they save a child's life. If you don't like them, ignore them, and leave this topic to those of us who think it matters.
