Sunday again. The first for the year. I started my one New Year resolution when I got up on Wednesday - and the fact that 12 hours later, the small of my back was no longer hurting is a good reason to keep it up. Apparently, dehydration was the cause of that particular pain.
My left ankle is something else entirely, and my chiropractor has been working on it.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
My granddaughter did a much better job of cleaning the cat box that she has before. This is the fifth time she's done it, and she's beginning to get the hang of how to do it.
Friday was a bit of an adventure. I took Squatty in to get its front brakes done pretty early in the morning. I hung around for a while to make sure some of the places I needed to go downtown would be open when I got there and made it to the bus stop just before the bus arrived. It was always a one bus shot to the MINI dealership, but since they moved, it is now ONLY one bus, rather than my choice of several lines. I had a late breakfast at a restaurant in the Pearl District (it was cooked exactly to my taste, but the man who owns Sanborn's is, in my opinion, a much better cook). I got some stamps and went to the library and then back to the dealership. I had left it at about 8:30 AM, with the estimate of the brakes would be done by 12:30 or 1:00. I got back at around 11:30 to the news that they were done already and it wasn't going to cost as much as they had estimated BEFORE the discount I got for my donation to their drive to help the homeless.
I finished my errands out near where I was and, on the way home, the tire alarm light went on. There was no funny noise, and no change in how the car was handling, so I drove to the local Les Schwab where I bought the tires and had them check it out. The verdict was, nothing wrong and it would be pointless to give me a quote for new tires since at least 75% of the original tread was still there and unless I had a blowout, the tires would last me another several years.
Now for something completely different:
I don't know how many of you noticed when I talked about having been inspired to (re)read some of the Discworld books after I read Lawrence Watt-Evans' book, The Turtle Moves!.
He mentioned an exchange in one of the books featuring the witches of Lancre that I wanted to check out, so I chose that series to check out of the library (I don't own ALL the Discworld books) and read. The scene he mentioned that caught my interest is, according to my Kindle, on page 302 of Carpe Jugulum. It's a conversation between the Greatly Reverend Mightily Oats and Granny Weatherwax. The beginning speaker is Mr. Oats:
“… There is a very interesting debate raging at the moment about the nature of sin, for example.”
“And what do they think? Against it, are they?”
“It’s not as simple as that. It’s not a black and white issue. There are so many shades of gray.”
“Nope.”
“Pardon?”
“There’s no grays, only white that’s got grubby. I’m surprised you don’t know that. And sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.”
“It’s a lot more complicated than that – “
“No. It ain’t. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they’re worried that they won’t like the truth. People as things, that’s where it starts.”
“Oh, I’m sure there are worse crimes – “
“But they starts with thinking about people as things…”
I know what I am going to be considering when I participate in the coming Monday Meditation. Any thoughts from anyone else?
