In an unprecedented show of opposition to abortion, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is delaying the start of the party’s annual winter meeting so he and other committee members can join the March for Life on the Mall, The Washington Times has learned. [...]Rescheduling your annual political meeting so that your party members can be seen parading around demanding that abortion be banned is a dramatic statement, but perhaps not as dramatic as choosing to first shop the story to the Washington Times. Good gawd, Reince, did you have to deliver it in crayon?
“I saw that there was a real interest among a significant portion of our members to attend and support the Rally for Life,” Mr. Priebus said in an email to The Times. “This is a core principle of our party. It was natural for me to support our members and our principles.”
Mr. Priebus also decided that the RNC will charter a bus to and from the march for those among the RNC’s 168 members who wish to attend, he said.A chartered bus? Now we're talking!
Now that Reince is doing this, of course, the pressure will be on committee members to attend. Consider it another litmus test. I imagine Reince is also sincerely hoping that the move will result in the committee wandering around on the Mall for a bit as opposed to getting any actual work done, since heaven knows having 168 hardline Republicans meet in a room somewhere never, ever, ever results in good publicity afterwards. Hell, if I were him I would fly them all to Disney World afterwards and call it done—anything to keep them from deciding things.
