Rep. Pearce (R-NM) replies to a desperate person; says it's wonderful that she has the right to write him.
Ever get a form letter back from your Congressional Representative? (Ever get anything BUT a form letter?) But don't they at least choose a form letter that mentions your issue by name?
Not this guy. This is how far "representative" government has sunk. Talk about out of touch.
My friend Jill is articulate, talented, artistic, decent - and a survivor of traumatic brain injury. This letter of hers is uncharacteristically confrontational because she's reached the end of her rope. Look how much attention she gets. (She gave me permission to pass this on.)
(she writes)
I sent an email to my representative. It said:
"Dear Rep. Pearce,
You are personally responsible for taking food from me. I'm on permanent disability trying to survive on $710 from SSI, and you personally took food from me by cutting food stamps. What say you?
Thanks for representing me.
Your constituent,
Jill **"
Here's what he responded with. [sigh]

Dear Ms. **:
Thank you for contacting me to express your views. I appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to reach out to me regarding this important issue.
The only way to ensure our great republic continues to thrive is for citizens like you to exercise your First Amendment rights, and voice your opinion. This inalienable right must be cherished, and I thank you for making your voice heard.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey once said, “Freedom is hammered out on the anvil of discussion, dissent and debate.” The fact that you are helping to hammer out freedom speaks volumes about your character and patriotism.
During the 113th Congress I will consider many pieces of legislation important to all Americans. When considering legislation I will, as I always do, adhere to the principles that I was elected upon and take into account the many views of the people in the 2nd Congressional District.
Your correspondence is greatly appreciated and I will always take your thoughts into consideration when voting in the House of Representatives.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Should Congress consider legislation regarding the issues of importance to you, I will be sure to keep your views in mind.
Sincerely,
Steve Pearce
Member of Congress
