Seriously. Bruce Rauner did that.

Republican Bruce Rauner is calling for a $1-an-hour rollback in the state’s minimum wage in a move Democrats described as “class warfare” on Illinois’ working poor.

“I will advocate moving the Illinois minimum wage back to the national minimum wage,” Rauner said in a report broadcast by the Illinois Radio Network. “I think we’ve got to be competitive here in Illinois.”

Good lord, his campaign is so over.

Poor Bruce Rauner. In the three years from 2010-2012, he only made a measly $100 million.

He owns more multi-million dollar homes than Mitt Romney:

There's the 6,870-square-foot Rauner mansion on a half-acre lot in Winnetka; two units, including a penthouse, in a luxury high-rise overlooking Millennium Park; a waterfront villa in the Florida Keys with a 72-foot-long pool; ranches in Montana and Wyoming; and a condo in an upscale Utah ski resort.

Most carry price tags well into the seven figures. But topping the list is a penthouse in a landmark co-op building along New York's Central Park, which property records show Rauner bought in 2005 for $10 million.

Oh, but he pulled himself up by his bootstraps. Except he didn't:
Rauner, 57, who describes himself as just a middle-class kid "who worked his fanny off," grew up mostly in upscale North Shore suburbs. His father was a vice president at electronics giant Motorola.
He's already spent at least $2 million on television ads introducing himself to Illinois voters. His ads depict him in a Carhartt work jacket, you know, just a regular guy who wants to do good.

Good lord...

But I think his campaign is effectively over. Even his loony GOP opponents aren't for lowering the minimum wage. How truly clueless and out-of-touch.

What's interesting is that Rauner made these comments last month at a candidate's forum and they only came to light today. Looks like one or more of his Republican opponents decided now was the time to take him out.

Bruce, we hardly knew ye...

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
