This morning, smileycreek posted Welcome New Users: Where Can a New User Get Some *&#!@ HELP Around Here?, which provides a helpful list of open threads or community diaries that post daily and encourages new users to ask questions:

There's always the Help desk, listed in the upper right hand corner of every Daily Kos page, but you might get quicker results asking a Kossack first. There are a lot more friendly helpful kossacks on the site than there are staff on the Help desk. Nothing is off-topic in Open Thread or community diaries, and if you ask nicely (and maybe even indicate you're kinda new, or even just kinda confused) no one will be offended and someone will be willing to help you. If you don't mind asking for help you're in luck, because every few hours there's a diary available from the list below where you can ask questions and be met with friendly people who were once new here themselves. Community diaries are also safe and fun places to get to know people as the prevailing custom there is to check political fights and grudges at the door.
Since that diary has scrolled off the recent and recommended lists, I thought it would be good to highlight here this evening for those who might have missed it. And who knows? A fresh round of rec's and comments might bring it back to the wreck list so that more new users will see it.

So mosey on over to WNU to ask your questions tonight, or feel free to ask 'em here. I won't be around for a couple of hours after this posts, but will check to make sure that everyone has a reply when I return.

Play nice!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
