What if you were going to go out and have lunch or dinner, and knew that some of your options included restaurants that paid their employees $12.00 or more per hour, and possibly gave them full time work, with health benefits ?
What if a new graphic was created, like a green heart to show that the employees were not being paid slave wages, and the owners of this place are doing their part, hoping people will continue to support them.
There might be higher prices, but really lunch isn't that expensive, we can afford another $1.00 if it means the employees that are washing the dishes, and cooking the food, and doing all the hard work aren't being taken advantage of, due to the current minimum wage, or the laws that allow owners to pay less than minimum wage.
I am not sure what the proper amount is, but this could be adjusted to include the climate of the economy in a specific area.
Personally, I would support this, as I do feel guilty knowing who is doing all the hard work, and probably not being paid fairly.
So, there you have your choices for lunch, and you see the green heart sticker on the front door as you enter, and you can enjoy your lunch knowing you supported a business that treats it's employees a little bit better than others.
It's just a thought. Just an idea.
