After listening to most of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's press conference today about what's become known as "Bridge-gate, there's a major problem with his explanation about what transpired: Why did he not try to get to the bottom of this sooner?
Didn't the traffic congestion problems warrant a more full investigation sooner? Why did he wait only until now to start showing any degree of concern as to what the People of his state (and others) had endured?
It seems that only when this became a personal political problem for Christie did he actually take any significant action to allegedly “find out” what happened and do something about it. Why?
Why did it take so long for Gov. Christie to find out what happened in his own administration? Doesn't that show gross incompetence, at the least? Doesn't it show callous indifference on Gov. Christie's part? Where was he when the problems first came up? Why no interest on his part then or until just now? Isn't it gross negligence and incompetence that Christie allegedly knew nothing about what was going on by his own administration regarding this matter?
Christie's press conference seemed to this citizen to be focused exclusively on Gov. Christie, his feelings of betrayal and the fact that he felt motivated to act only when it personally involved him. Where has he been on this matter for the past few months?
The answer: nowhere to be found.
It's surprising to me that none of the lame reporters at the press conference felt it necessary to ask this question. It is, to me at least, the most important question of all:
Where has Gov. Christie been when it comes to wanting to address this matter before? Didn't the treatment of the citizens of Fort Lee warrant a similar effort previously? Why not?
Why did it take so long for Gov. Christie to take this whole matter seriously?
