The other day I hired a guide to do a 45 km. tour the west side of Bangkok's Chao Phraya River.
The Chao Phraya River as it winds through Central Bangkok.
My personable guide Num, is the owner of Backroads Cycling tours in Bangkok.
The west side of the river is Bangkok the way it used to be. On the east side many of the canals were filled in and paved as roads. but on the west side of the river the canals remain intact.
The canals are full of Catfish. The local residents prefer to eat other species of fish, and seldom catch the Catfish.
We dropped a piece of bread into a canal in front of a small Buddhist temple, and the Catfish converged on the bread.
On the west side of the river much of the commerce and transportation still uses the canals.
Num quickly fixes a chain on my bike that broke.
