Idaho's certainly one heck of a red state.  President Barack Obama only received 32% of the votes in the state November 2012 when he won re-election.

However, that appears to not prevent Boise lawyer Nels Mitchell from running against freshman U.S. Senator Jim Risch.

Looks like Mitchell will be making an announcement 10:30 am today at the Boise Depot in Boise, ID.  Some details below:

Political newcomer and Boise lawyer Nels Mitchell will formally announce his campaign to unseat first-term GOP Sen. Jim Risch at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Boise Depot.

Mitchell “promises to give Idaho’s hard working families and small businesses a powerful advocate in Washington, D.C.,” according a news release from the Idaho Democratic Party. “With Idaho wages at 50th in the nation, it is time for our career politicians, like U.S. Sen. James Risch, to retire.”

In case anyone who lives in Boise, ID or nearby wants to see Mitchell's announcement, the Boise Depot is located at 2603 W Eastover Terrace, Boise, ID 83706

Not a whole lot of information has been revealed about Nels Mitchell and he doesn't have his campaign website, donation page up, etc. so I can only assume he just recently announced he was running.

However, here's some info on Mitchell to work with for now:

Mitchell is a graduate of Boise High School, Columbia University in New York and the University of Idaho Law School, where he has worked as an adjunct instructor for 10 years.

After a 27-year legal career in California and New York, Mitchell returned to Idaho to become a partner at Mauk & Burgoyne. The firm was founded by former Idaho Democratic Party Chairman Bill Mauk and Idaho House Assistant Minority Leader Grant Burgoyne. Mauk ran for the U.S. Senate in 1998 against GOP Sen. Mike Crapo.

His legal experience includes several years as an associate regional director at the Securities and Exchange Commission in southern California, where he oversaw a staff of about 75 people who investigated and prosecuted securities fraud cases in the Los Angeles area.
As far as anything else, there's nothing I can find.  If anyone has anything to report on Nels Mitchells, go ahead and share it.

Who would you prefer to serve as U.S. Senator in Idaho?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
