Didn't see a diary about this:
A 12-year-old boy armed with a shotgun opened fire at a middle school in New Mexico on Tuesday, seriously wounding at least two students before a staff member persuaded him to put down the firearm, the governor and police said.

I am guessing maybe I didn't see a diary in part because it's too depressing, and has become all too frequent an event that it's starting to become just another item in the daily "violence white noise" news stories like car crashes, fires, natural disasters, etc.
I'm of the view that these incidents - campus shootings - are a sign of a sick culture. Not only because they happen, but also because we seem to be unable to come together to make them stop. Join me below if you want to try to stop these things from happening.
What's the solution?
In my humble opinion, it's a problem that needs several tools to solve it:
1. Access to guns has to be made more restrictive
2. Mental healthcare has to be expanded
3. Schools need to focus on anti-bullying programs
4. In the short term, resources officers need to be deployed to campuses until Nos. 1, 2 & 3 take hold and then those officers can be retired and money can be redirected to hire educators
5. Schools need to train for these events and hopefully as Nos. 1, 2 and 3 take effect, the training can diminish and those resources can be redirected to hire educators.
These things could go a very long way in reducing the number of shootings on campuses.
I'd also like to see the suicide by gun rate go down as well - guns are the most effective means of suicide, and suicide can often be an impulsive act. Take the quick and easy method away and you reduce the chance that suicide is successful. Expand mental healthcare and the chances someone gets to the point of wanting to take their life is reduced.
