Bob Dylan . . .

Well it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe, if you don’t know by now . . .
More than half a century after Eisenhower’s unheeded warning about the military-industrial complex, what is there left to wonder about? America has a permanent war economy, the police are being militarized, Wall Street is above the law, the NSA monitors everything we say, the Bill of Rights is gone, massive voter suppression is the new normal, corporate propaganda fills the airwaves every minute of the day and corruption is off the charts. When this country’s politicians aren’t abusing power they’re obstructing justice, the political culture has become toxic, the electoral system is broken, there are 300 million guns in this country and most of them are loaded.

If this isn’t fascism, I’d like to know what to call it.

I’m new here, this is my first diary. I knocked on doors for Gene McCarthy when I was 13 years old, I’ve never voted for a Republican, but it seems to me that no matter which party is in power, the middle class loses. No matter which party is in power, government surveillance keeps expanding. No matter which party is in power, dissent keeps being criminalized. No matter which party is in power, the courts and the economy and the corporate media keep being used as weapons by the One-Percent against the rest of us.

There’s no limit to their greed, no limit to their control over our “elected representatives”, no limit to the damage they keep inflicting on society and the environment and the national and global economies. The lies just keep on coming, the consequences just keep piling up, the travesties never end.  What should be set free is bound, what should be bound is set free, what should be done is not done, what should never be done is done.

Chris Hedges . . .

Defenseless under the night, our world in stupor lies, yet dotted everywhere, ironic points of light flash out, wherever the just exchange their messages. May I, composed like them of eros and of dust, beleaguered by the same negation and despair, show an affirming flame.
May all of us show an affirming flame. We have the truth, we are the truth, and the truth is too big to fail.

It's just not being told enough.

If there’s still enough time, if it’s not too late, if you haven’t given up, if you can find the words, if you haven’t run out of words, tell the truth about what this country’s become.  Tell it here, tell it everywhere.  Support Democrats if you think that's the solution, but this country's problems extend far beyond politics and they're getting worse because of politics.

We have a lot of work to do, so many Americans don’t want to hear the truth, they don’t want to deal with it, they can’t bear to look at it, they won’t acknowledge it, they're clinging to their illusions, whistling past the graveyard while they text meaningless messages to each other and wait for the reply, squinting at their screens in the twilight's last gleaming.

They're spending their time in the doldrums, they're caught in a cauldron of hate, they feel persecuted and paralyzed, they think everything else will just wait until they're ready to face this, if they ever are, if they ever will be.  They're keeping the truth out of sight while everything falls apart, while beyond their tunnel vision reality fades, like shadows into the night.

Don't ever give up.  Their days are blighted by darkness, all of our days are blighted by darkness, so light an affirming flame.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

sunday and in flags and billboards all over the country. Only thing is, they're saying it's the liberals taking over and bringing down the government.

I tend to feel that way too.  I remind myself of something I heard once, "Tend to what's in front of you."  No one of us is going to strike the match that sets this thing on fire.  Do your part, connect with people who feel like you do, and try not to take it all on yourself. I do see a shift, and I believe it is real.

The best thing for trying to find light at the end of the tunnel is to DO SOMETHING!  Fight back in every way, shape and form that you can and don't quit!

Write Letters to the Editor, sign Petitions, write letters to Congresscritters, the President, fax, e-mail, whatever, make phone calls to them, regularly, act, get out at the rallies on all the issues, just get up and DO SOMETHING!

(BTW, how about a little JusticeSeeking for this author?  Hmmmm?)

    •  Right now, if ever there was a time for Americans (0+ / 0-)

to stand up and be heard, IT'S NOW!

The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, which could be "fast tracked" any given day, MUST BE STOPPED.  This so-called "Trade Agreement," if "fast tracked" or passed otherwise, will be the "coup de gras" of a failing democracy and the final destruction of it.

When corporate laws, passed through International Tribunals, led, generally, by the attorneys for the corporations, acting as judges, can challenge just about any law imaginable, be it worker wages, health, food safety, the environment, the intellectual property rights, the Internet, and a myriad of just about every public service you can think of, and achieve decisions through that means, which would be non-appealable and binding upon all member nations, this will not only cost loss of more jobs, but will ultimately destroy the sovereignty of this country (as well as that of member nations) and pave the way for the most sinister of acts and human rights' abuses.

PLEASE stand up.  Call  your representatives and tell them "NO" to "fast tracking" and "NO" to the TPP Agreement.
