The "experts" have weighed in on charges that could arise out of Bridgegate, including criminal charges of conspiracy, official misconduct and, if they have or do lie under oath, perjury and obstruction of justice.
There is, however, another even more ominous charge. Death due to an unlawful action is one of the definitions of involuntary manslaughter. They have ignored the death of a 91 year-old woman who, according to reports, had her care delayed by the traffic the unlawful act deliberately caused.
Unlike other killings, involuntary manslaughterrequires no intent:
Most unintentional killings are not murder but involuntary manslaughter. The absence of the element of intent is the key distinguishing factor between voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. In most states involuntary manslaughter results from an improper use of reasonable care or skill while performing a legal act, or while committing an act that is unlawful but not felonious
.
It is important to emphasize that there is, as yet, no definitive statement that the delays caused this woman's death. But, it was mentioned by Fort Lee's Chief Emergency Medical Technician as one of four cases of delayed response.
If, however, the delay may have caused this woman's death, then a grand jury could and should charge the conspirators with involuntary manslaughter. It makes absolutely no difference that the family believed "her time had come". Criminal charges are brought by the state, not by individuals. Indeed, if the family did not want her to survive, why did they even call an ambulance? There is no requirement that someone die in a hospital.
The Bridgegate conspirators were playing with peoples' lives, by design, and seemingly enjoying every minute of it.
Scratch a Republican politician and playing with other peoples' lives is what you get--lying us into war, debt-ceiling default brinksmanship, government shutdown, unemployment insurance, food stamps, Sandy relief delays, infrastructure repair obstruction....just name your subject.
