I am sitting here watching a time-delayed (All Hail TiVo!) Real Time with Bill Maher thankfully back from break, and one of his guests is longtime Republican strategist Mary Matalin. My jaw dropped when I heard her say this:
"Where do you guys think all this money comes from? The government does not create money--"
I was even more surprised to see precisely none of the people sitting there challenge her on it. Not longtime Democratic strategist James Carville (her husband, for the record), not Governor Jennifer Granholm, not other Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, and not host Bill Maher.
Because dammit, the government does create money. It's the only entity in this country that's allowed to make money.
Let me point you to the appropriate line of the Constitution of the United States in Article 1, Section 8, the fifth one in the section. "Congress shall have Power... "
"To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;"
See? Government makes the money.
I don't know why Republicans say they want to protect and save our Constitution when they don't remember what's in the thing.
