Maybe I'm just delusional here but I got elected with 71% of the votes and my opponent in 2012 only got 24.7% of the votes. Whatever this Peter Clemens guy is trying to do, I don't know. All I know is that I'm going to Maddox for a nice trout filet and then off to work to stop Obamacare.
Utah's 1st Congressional District, home of Logan, Ogden, Weber State University and also one of the locations of Farr's Ice Cream, is not exactly prime territory for Democrats. Rep. Rob Bishop, who has served UT-01 since 2003, got re-elected in 2012 by 71.5% of the votes and the district has a PVI of R+27 per the Cook Political Report. In other words, UT-01 is a deep red Congressional District.
However, that doesn't seem to be deterring Democratic Candidate Peter Clemens from continuing on with his campaign in challenging Congressman Bishop.
On January 31st in Ogden, UT, Clemens and his campaign are hosting a Climb to Convention Kickoff in what appears to be a way to make their presence heard at the Utah State Democratic Convention. Details of the event are below:

The Stanford-Examiner points out the following on Peter Clemens' decision to run for Congress:
http://www.standard.net/...
OGDEN -- Peter Clemens, a physician who has lived in Ogden for more than a decade, has announced his bid for the United States Congress in District One.
Clemens, a Democrat, will go up against Republican Rep. Rob Bishop in the November election.
He said people ask him why he would run for Congress when he is a successful doctor.
"I believe that there is an uneasiness right now," he said, noting that people think their government, especially Congress, is dysfunctional. "I want to be part of the solution for our government starting to work for us."
Clemens is running with the slogan "Leading Utah into the future while protecting her past." He said he wants to protect the natural resources that provide opportunities such as hiking and biking in the state.
The candidate said Bishop has lost touch with what Utahns need and want.
He said evidence is in his vote to "gut" the country's food stamp program when 25 percent of Utah families are going hungry.
The Standard-Examiner also reported where Clemens stands on the issues:

The candidate believes strongly that:
* Tax policy should favor the middle class.
* Public education is a high priority and loans to pay college tuition should be affordable to families.
* The historic role of agriculture and extractive industries in the west should be responsibly supported.
* Conservation of Utah's natural resources and beauty is a priority given the growing economic importance of outdoor recreation.
* All citizens should be treated equally regardless of gender or sexual preference and government policies should support the diverse social life and economic security of Utah's families.
* Utah has a unique role to play in the development of emerging high technology and clean-energy industries.
