Really People?
$25 after two days? I have promised to grow out a comically hideous beard for a month and eat enough sugarless gummi bears to make my ass spontaneously combust for your amusement and all we have to show for it is $25?
I could understand that if all that money was going straight into my pocket, but it's not. It's going to the 300,000+ people in West Virginia who have had their water supply poisoned by a chemical about which next-to-nothing is known about, while their representatives in government collectively flip them the bird by advocating for legislation to LESSEN environmental regulations and with their own governor essentially telling them, "Fine...drink the water or don't drink the water...I don't give a shit."
Do you see the hideousness of this Crustache!? These are the sacrifices I make people!
And where has this been in the national consciousness? Fucking nowhere! The weekend after it happened, the largest US environmental disaster since the BP Gulf Oil Spill got exactly ZERO mentions on the Sunday Morning Talk Shows. I swear to Christ if something doesn't happen on the East or West Coast, the major news outlets act like it happened in fuckin' Siberia. Nobody gives a shit about West Virginians because there have never been enough West Virginians with the money and social capital to make other people care about them. If this spill had happened in the Potomac or the Hudson, you would've had 24 hour, round the clock coverage with Anderson Cooper's silver foxy ass in a pair of waders while Al Roker was looking at sediment samples.
Long story short, the West Virginian Government isn't going to help the West Virginian people, nor is the Federal Government or the National Media. The only real thing that the people of West Virginia can count on is the charity and kindness of ordinary people like themselves who are willing to get outside of themselves and help. Even if all you donate is 1 dollar, that dollar translates into a gallon of water that can help a West Virginia family in need who can't drink their own tap water because it makes them nauseous and can't wash up with their bath water because it causes them to break out in rashes.
Please help out with whatever you can by donating to The 1st Inaugural Mountaineer Bad Beard-Off for Clean Water
