DK Readers, please take a look at the link I'm posting below. It's an article
on the France 24 news site, explaining how the United Auto Workers may well be
on the verge of scheduling, and ultimately winning a factory-wide election in Tennessee to
gain collective bargaining representation for most hourly workers, as well a seat
on VW's Global Works Council. The Global Works Council is especially crucial
as it will give American VW workers an actual voice on VW's board of directors in Germany.
This would be a huge victory for Organized Labor in the U.S. More than that, it
may eventually help the pressure Daimler and BMW, two more German auto makers
in hard-line right-to-work states that also have Global Works Councils.
A majority of workers have already signed cards at VW asking for Union representation
and the Dept. of Labor has yet to schedule an election. Let's hope between now and the
actual election that management will obey the law and keep it clean.
