First ever diary so I hope you will be kind.
I just felt that the recent events in West Virginia screamed for a rewrite of the song "Country Roads" so here is my take. My ego is not invested; if anyone can and will improve on this I will be thrilled. But sometimes music and satire can "get through" when reality doesn't. Text below the dingbat.
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Kanawha Valley, up the Elk River
Life was old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze
Chorus:
Freedom Industries, take my home,
I no longer belong
West Virginia, Gary Southern
File bankruptcy, Freedom Industries
All my memories, gathered 'round her
MHCM, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, smell of licorice,
Taste of formaldehyde, taste of PPH
Chorus
I hear their voice, sayin' don't you drink the water,
The radio reminds me of the shaved off mountain tops
And drivin' down the road I get the feeling
I should never never go back, not again
Chorus x 2
